Money to be best spent for a home (Details inside)?

My husband and I have been approved for a small-to-middlin' amount to buy/build our home. We live in what we call an 'indoor-outhouse' simply because of the size with growing boys and very small space. THe question is:

Is it better to to obtain a new sturdy pre-made double wide home and place it on a lot that we will in the future build a better home on?

Or go with one of the ramshackled (for the same prices) homes that need so much work you can barely live it in before completing it.

** Caution 1 I have 2 Autistic sons... safely IS and will ALWAYS be a factor.

Any OPinions? Ideas?

Answers:
Buy the pre-made home.

You'll have more flexibility over where you live that way, and will be able to choose a neighborhood that's safer than if you bought a run-down place.

It will also save you money over the short-middle term, letting you save more to buy a better home. Those ramshackle places end up costing a fortune just to maintain, and you'll never get to save anything.

Other answers:
Buy the biggest home you can afford ... if that's a double wide, then that's what it is. No biggie.

By all means go with the double wide!! they make some really pretty ones now, and quite roomy.. they can put them in now so they do not even look like a mobile home any more, and have improved them greatly over the years.. I would just make sure you have a front and back doors on it and have many fire detectors.Just make sure you have a safe place to go in case of storms.. that is my only concern for you.. Good luck to you and your husband and those 2 precious boys !!
Go for the double wide or triple wide. They are cheaper than a ramshackle home that you can't guarantee to sell when you plan to build big. Keep your property it's the most valuable asset to a home and when your ready to build a house, plan to contract the work yourself. Its cheaper and in the long run you can get more for your money.
