How do you get rid of fruitflies?

Argh, I have never seen so many. My boyfriend brought these stupid bananas in here and the bugs have been here for weeks and we can't get rid of them!

Answers:
The store i work for was attemting to get rid of bug by using viniger during the summer. Ive heard that the bugs are soposed to fly in to drink and then get traped in it and die. It had some effect because after a few week of it being ther the bugs dissapeared.
Hope this helps you. :)

you have to bomb. a professional should do it. we had them at my work, and they had to bomb twice to get rid of them completely.
We have some gnats too. You can buy househole bug spray and it will work. Read the directions on the can.
Get rid of the fruit
get rid of the bananas and any other fruit you have out and they should leave
get rid of all fruits and vegetables and clean up any juice spills. fruit flies only live for a few days.
Wash the container the fruit is in and all surface area (any cleanser will do, then do a rinse). Next, always wash all fruit brought into the house. Most fruit has bug eggs on it that are microscopic. A light sudsy rinse and they're gone.
Oh, and sometimes if it's really bad I use the hose exstension on my vaccum cleaner to suck them up...good bye flies!
Good luck!
Fruit flys ride into your apartmrnt as eggs on your fruit. Wash your fruit when you come home and store in the fridge until your are ready to eat it. AS far as the flies go your either outlast them or use a commercial pesticide, some of which are organically safe.
I used to work at the BJs bakery years back and we used to get them back there... (I know gross!), at the time my manager told me to leave out a plastic cup of vinegar.

It attracts them and they drown.

Other than that, maybe the old-fashioned fly strips!
Take a piece of notebook paper and make a small funnel out of it using a peice of scotch tape. The funnel's small end should be about the size of a pencil. Put some banana down in a pop bottle and then place the funnel in the top of the bolttle. The flies will go in but can not get back out.
Fruit flies don't equal a dirty house. You guys just keep good food handy! Nothin' to be ashamed of!
I'm a neat-freak,and I have the lil' bastards buzzin' around!
Take out your trash regularly, and they might not swarm so much.
Scrub the counters...keep all foods sealed as much as you can.
Keep an eye out for their favorite hangouts.....those might be problem spots.Clean up in those areas.
And SPRAY them lil' fukkerz with any kind of aerosol...that'll put'em down!

They just seem to disappear when the fruit is gone. Next time put the "stupid" bananas in the refrigerator. For flies outside, put dead flies or lemonade in a jar with a hole in the lid about a half inch in diameter and add about an inch or two of water. Put this under a cover or add something to keep the rain out. It will smell awful after awhile, but the flies will love it and be trapped.
Fill a small plastic container with vinegar about half to 2/4 full. Cover with plastic wrap and secure with a rubber band. Poke holes into the plastic wrap big enough for the fruit flies to enter. This works very well, I do this myself. Make several of these and put them in various locations where they seem to be hanging around.

BTW- Do not put bananas in the refridgerator, they will turn brown very quickly and become basically useless.
shop vac them up.
To get rid of fruit flies, here are some steps you might want to take:
1. Take out your trash regularly. Fruit flies love garbage that's left out.
2. Clean your kitchen with bleach as often as possible.
3. Clean your drains with bleach as often as possible.
4. Don't leave garbage bins (the outside variety) near your home. Put them as far away as possible.
5. Cloth Fruit Bags are usually made from a calico cloth that not only keeps fruit flies away from your fruit, but breaths well enough to allow fruit inside to ripen. This is the perfect way to ensure that fruit you leave in your pantry isn't susceptible to breeding fruit flies.
6. If all else fails, do a massive cleaning of your pantry/kitchen area, throw out all fruit, and put up some fly tape.
First, get rid of the fruit. Then wash all surfaces with oxyclean.
I think if you remove any food that is sitting on the counters they should be gone,
first put the bannanas away like in the fridge then you can buy these fly catching things at the store. They caome in these tubes and you pull a sting to expose the flying catching.. sticky paper thing. then you hang it from the ceiling where ever the fruit flies were. They are really cheap and they come in sets of 4. They work! there are no more flies or fruit flies in my house. They even catch bees.
