How do I cut a roller blind to fit a porthole?

Have to cut a roller blind for my sons bedroom. Its the blackout style and last time I tried I cut it slightly shabby on edges and light be shining through the sides, ruined the whole point :-( Anyone know how I can do this easier and what tools I should use?

Answers:    You will inevitability a hacksaw pencil along piece of wood to make a straight column tape gauge and scissors
When I cut my blackout blind, used a hand-held saw to cut through the roller itself, and then only scissors to cut through the blind - worked pretty well...
Thing to remember, the blind stuff should be 2mm shorter than the pole it's on. This is so it doesnt get held up at the sides when it's going up and down. Many people don't embezzle this step and their blind's end up adjectives twisted and bent and eventually break.

I use a jigsaw with a exceedingly fine toothed blade to cut everything, roll up the blind tight and cut straight through, perfect straight cut within seconds. Then cut the pole to 2mm longer on respectively side, re attach the blind. If the blind is not removeable from the pole, do as the person above said and cut the blind beside scissors. Make sure they are sharp, might need to use fitting quality ones approaching dress making scissors, do a test cut on an nouns that will be cut off to brand name sure it won't fray. Then cut the pole at the top with a hacksaw 2mm wider than the blind on respectively side.

Cut the bottom pole to the same wideness as the blind.
I would take it to a blind shop they are equipped to do only just that,I tried to do it once and only made a mess and have to buy another blind cut to the right size.Just a suggestion.
All of the above are very apposite answers, but they have adjectives missed one top tip if you are going to cut it yourself.
Before you cut the blind once it has be measured etc, spray the edge that it going to be cut beside hairspray and leave for a few minutes this will stop the brim fraying, when I moved into my current house I was given this tip and it save me a lot of time money and energy.

Hope this helps...
