As a deck cleaning solution, someone recommended mixing bleach, rubbing alcohol, and non-ammonia soap. Safe?

The mix proposed was 1 gallon water, 1 quart bleach, 1 pint rubbing alcohol, and 2 table spoons murphy's oil soap or other non-ammonia detergent. Is it safe to mix bleach and alcohol? I know not to mix ammonia and bleach.

Answers:
Actually it isn't a good idea to, though it is safe. Murphy's is an OIL...and rubbing alcohol removes oil... bad idea. If you're going to clean your deck I highly recommend using a pressure washer and purchasing a cleaner specifically for it. If you can't get a pressure washer then I suggest you use plain old Dawn Dishwashing detergent (it won't kill your grass!).

Other answers:
that don't sound safe you can go to wal-mart of any store and buy stuff to clean your deck they do make stuff for that.

All you need is Bleach, and scrub it,,,OR get a pressure washer with NO chemicals involved.

Treat after with Thompsons, and enjoy it for about 6 months.

It's a DECK, not fine furniture. DON'T MIX CHEMICALS.

I wouldn't recommend mixing bleach with anything except water, unless you know for certain. The best way to clean a deck is to go to Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. and rent a power washer. If you are short on cash, try Murphy's Oil Soap mixed with water and get out your elbow grease and a scub brush. Bleach, rubbing alcohol, ammonia, & some non-ammonia cleansers strip away the top layer of hard surfaces. That's why it is not good to over use them or use them on certain surfaces - especially wood. Always use an oil based cleanser when dealing with any type of wood in order to protect & preserve it. That's why I recommend a power washer. It is quick, effective, & will safely strip away the dirt without hurting the surface of the wood.

I would also recommend re-staining (if needed) your deck then sealing it with Thompson's Water seal or another equally good seal. Thompson's water seal, (in my opinion) is the best on the market. It keeps wood looking great!
Don't mix anything with Bleach unles you want to be deathly ill. I use Tide detergent and water in bucket with a brush on a stick and rub to let oxygen in, when you see nothing but bubbles rinse clean.
I agree with everyone. I've always used bleach (with just water) or a pressure washer.:)
