Can I paint over shower surround boards? Most importantly will the paint stick?

The walls in my bathroom are not drywall, are made from white shower board (a.k.a. tub surround). I would like to paint it, but I am worried that the paint will either wash off, not stick, or when humid, will peel away from the board. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Answers:
I think if you prime first with Kilz or some other High Quality Oil Based primer, you should have no problems with the paint sticking. Then I would use an Oil Based Enamel paint. When you are getting the paint mixed, make sure to put in a mildew inhibitor. Run this buy the little doobie behind the paint counter and see what he says.

I've asked Home Depot about this and they told me to refinish the fiberglass surround. Some of the kits have color to them but mainly they're clear. You're right the paint won't stick. Good Luck
