Skirtboard / skirt / foundation board after installing laminate floor boards, any special tips?
Thanks.
Answers: If the baseboards are spanking new or in obligation of paint, paint them before installing them. You'll still stipulation to touch them up to cover nail holes. But, that's a intact lot easier when they're already painted.
The baseboards should set flush with the floor.
After installing the baseboards, use a white latex caulk to swarm in the crack between the top of the baseboard and the wall. This give a clean, seamless look.
Borrow, rent, or buy a line nail gun that works bad a compressor. The wire nail are extremely thin and budge in at the verbs of a trigger. Using finishing nails and a tack hammer is tedious and you can effortlessly damage the baseboard near an errant hammer blow. Not to mention if you hit the fastener wrong and it bends.
If/when you patch the nail holes, use wood putty, white if you can find it. Use the tip of your finger to apply it, and use a wet through sponge or paper towel to smooth it over and remove the excess.
Follow the first answerer's instructions, but engender sure that you do not nail the baseboard into the floor, fastener them into the wall. If you nail it into the floor the floor will not be capable of move like it is designed to. It is okay for the baseboard to sit flush next to the new floor. Sometimes on elder floors, the baseboard won't sit all the route down. If this is a problem for you, buy some quarter-round molding and nail this to the baseboard. The quarter round is more flexible than the baseboard and will conform to the variation in the floor, if needed.
Best of luck, and remember-have fun!!!
