How do you replace a shingle roof?
Answers:
I allways tear off all old shingles and inspect the plywood decking. Then replace any bad areas with an exterior grade plywood of the same thickness. If you live in an area with snow make sure to use an ice and water barrier in the 1st 24" then tar paper and shingel. No specific way to do it as everyone does it different, but if youve never done it just follow the directions on a bundle or ask your home store for advice. Youll be fine all the work is carring loads up the ladder, goodluck.

If you are going to put money into a new roof... then I suggest you hire someone professional to do it right.
This is the roof over your head man !
Think about it.
First of all, if you have major water damage, once you pull up your sheathing (plywood), check your rafters for dryrot. Once you determine that you have no dryrot or replaced the damaged rafters, you will:
Use a 1/2" CDX plywood or a 7/16" OSB. These generally come in 4' x 8' sheets.
You do not need to apply a glue to your rafters and plywood.
Some tips:
Venting.
If you are using the standard roof vents, the formula to determine how many is this:
For every 300 square feet of attic floor space you will need 100 square inches of ventilation. Half of that ventilation for exhaust (through the roof) and half for intake (eave and gable vents).
My suggestion is to use a ridge vent system. Easier and it will let more heat out at a faster rate.
Flashing
Use it. Up each rake and along the eave (where the gutters go). It will protect the exposed edges of the sheathing.
