How do you hang a microwave?
Answers:
First check to make sure that yours is designed to be mounted. Normally there are four holes in each corner of the top of the microwave. These holes have internal threads and to hang it you simply make a paper pattern of the holes and place that pattern on the underside of the cabinet on which you'd like to install the microwave. Transfer the hole pattern onto the underside of the cabinet and then drill through the bottom of the cabinet. Buy yourself a piece or two of threaded steel rod from any home center the diameter of the internally threaded holes and then cut four lengths approx. 5" each. Get help in position the microwave on the bottom and insert the threaded rods in to the holes you drilled in the cabinet and screw the rods into each of the four holes in the microwave until they bottom out(can no longer be screwed). Place a washer and a nut of the same diameter of the threaded rod on the portion sticking up into the cabinet box and tighten the nut and washer until it pulls each corner of the microwave snug to the bottom of the cabinet. Cut any extra threaded rod off so that it does not interfere with the placement of contents in the cabinet. Tada, You're done! Unless you failed to pre-wire an outlet in the cabinet to power the microwave. Good luck!

On a shelf. You can buy articulated shelves that move and are a half metre from thewall - like how some have their tvs.

Put It On A Shelf
You need to buy the kit. you can't make anything other than a shelf to support the microwave cabinet.
GE's hanging kit for their mid-sized microwave ovens had a kit where you drilled 4 holes in the bottom shelf of a cabinet, and put two metal strips (with 2 holes each) over the drilled holes on the left and right side. I think it used 4 stove bolts and washers, one in each hole, dropped thru the strips and cabinet shelf, and screwed them into predrilled and tapped holes on the top of the microwave. When tightened, the screws pulled the micro up against the bottom of the shelf.
But it is important that the micro oven has factory-drilled & threaded holes. I would advise that you don't retro-fit your own micro if it is not done by the factory. The mfr knows where the microwave cavity and internal parts are positioned and they make sure the holes won't let any microwave energy radiate from the oven.
If your micro oven is factory-ready to hang, then create a paper or cardboard template for the holes to be drilled in the cabinet (drill from below), and make clearances on the sides and back for proper space, ventilation and power cable in the back of the oven. And you might want to replace the lamp if it is rear-mounted, before you finallize your installation.
