I need to put up a wood fence for privacy and work related. Need to need how to put one up, any ideas??
Answers:
Check with your zoning office before installing a fence. Some places have height restrictions and in some you are also required to pull a permit.
Other answers:
try self-help books.library, home depot or lowes. Also, double check on permits from city/town

buy pre manufactured fence sections
The height requirement is usually no higher than 6 feet. Also it must be minimum of 1 foot from neighbors property line and the posts (or ugly side of the fence) must be on the inside so you are looking at it. Rent a hole digger and buy premixed concrete. If you are using 48 inch fence sections and 4 x 4's as posts make sure the posts are 2 feet taller than the fence. Dig the holes 2 feet deep and place the posts 50 inch on center (do not cement yet) get a friend and make sure the fence pieces will line up to the near center of the posts. Start with the first and second post pouring the concrete and setting the posts by placing the piece of fence to pole 1 and 2 to make sure it aligns. do each following post the same until you get to the last post. Once the concrete is dry nail yer fence and enjoy.
Certainly check local codes first and secure the knowledge of where the property line is.
Construction is all labor.
Stockade is the least expensive, and is 6 ft high.
Determine how many 8 ft sections you need, determine how many treated 4x4 posts you'll need, and/or any gates or openings.
Post hole digger, perhaps river rock or concrete to anchor or provide drainage, set an 8 ft post 2 feet into the hole. Plumb it, and move on setting the next at 8ft on center, plumb it, level the two, and move on, until all are set. Refill the holes with dirt if you choose, and settle the dirt with a garden hose until its level with the surrounding soil.
The fence sections are installed on the posts, and at centers after the first section. You may have to trim the horizontal braces on the fence sections as they are not always exact. Buy extra slats for hiding the joined areas.
You probably should use some lumber for a ground spacer as well,,,IE: a 2 x 4, But in doing so you may want to set each post to accomodate that.

Oops an important edit. GROUND SLOPE or RISE... Don't forget to take that into consideration.
This Link has very good directions on how to build a good strong Paling fence... It is very easy to follow. I have been building Paling fences for 20 yrs and these directions are better than I could explain... Building a fence is very satisfying cos you can admire your work for many years. Check with your local authorities as there may be by-laws and restrictions. I know in Australia that your Neighbour is responsible for half the costs of the fence between you both. Have Fun
