Just built a tentative wall and want to incorporate outlets. I want to use romex but it is adjectives 2 line + a ground.?
Answers: Your existing outlets are 2-wire. Meaning no equipment grounding conductor...You will own to check with a voltmeter, whether your existing outlet box at the touch point of your new circuit is grounded. If its metal and is grounded, run 12/2 next to ground from there to your spanking new outlets. The bare ground contained by the new cable can be attached to the box using a green "ground" screw.
If your existing box is not grounded, install a feed-thru GFCI receptacle surrounded by place of the old one, and run your brand new circuit fed thru the GFCI. This is going on for all you can do and necessarily be in compliance next to the 2005 National Electrical Code, Art. 406.3. Section D.
If indeed you find that your existing outlet boxes are grounded, I would suggest going back and removing adjectives your old 2-wire recepts, and replace near 3-wire. Attach a 6" piece of Green #12 wire to the recept, and to a green grounding screw within the existing box..
I think you could probably only attach the new romex ground to the metal receptical box. Since you own conduit already touching the metal outlet box, then a grounded lead being added would verbs to gound the entire circuit back to the ground. Make sure that adjectives of your new outlet boxes are metal though.
Essentially, the metal conduit IS the ground line that is already nearby.
