How do you get the square feet of a room to know how much floor covering you need?
Answers:
Measure and multiply the length by the width. If you have an odd shaped room, just make the room a square or rectangle (numberwise!) and then multiply the length and width. This will give you extra for waste. Don't forget to include doorways or closets that you may want to floor as well.
You will always need to figure waste. For most flooring you need to add about 10% for waste. If you will be cutting for odd shaped rooms it is recommended to add up to 20% waste.
Other answers:
multiply in feet the length times the width. If you have a 10 feet by 12 feet room. The square feet is 120 square feet.

Measure length.
Measure width.
Take lenght X Width = Sq feet or meters.
Cut some 12 inch x 12 inch squares of paper. Lay them all over the floor until the entire floor is covered. Then, dancing like a ballerina, touch each square with a toe and count how many times you twist your ankle.
After you get out of the hospital, call a contractor.
