How do cut a piece of 1" marble? With a wet saw? Or another type of tool?

It is a long slab of marble I need to make shorter.

Answers:
If its a small task, you can cut with simple hand metal cutting saw, add little water drops, just to keep the blade cool.

But as you mentioned it 1" long marble slab, so you require a marble cutter. It has round saw fitted which rotates at very high speed & the water is kept running while its cutting, otherwise the blade will get overheated & break. Be careful using it, do wear a eye protector before using it.

I would use a wet saw.

A wet saw is a must.
Definitely a wet saw with a good diamond blade. Marble is sort and can be cut fairly easy if you take your time. Be extremely careful not to get the blade in a bind.
