My fireplace mantle has corbels stained darker than the rest of the mantle. How can I fix it?

Both the mantle and corbels have stain & polyurethane on them. The mantle had two coats of stain brushed on while the corbels had one coat of stain ragged on to get into all the crevises. I don't know how to fix my mistake.

Answers:
1) replace the corbels...
2) take the old corbels off---bleach/strip maybe even hand sand them-then restain refinsh etc...if there is a lot of grain...probably wont get all the stain out anyway so when restaining---do it quickly put it on wipe it off almost right away..i usually use a sprayer for small crevices etc...rather than ragging it on...
3) have you considerd darkening the rest of the mantle?

Other answers:
Bondo and duct tape.

you'll need to strip one of them and start over to get them the same shade.
Remove the poly. from the mantle sand it with coarse grit sand paper and stain again. It would be a whole lot easier to paint. Next time you stain remember wood takes stain easier on end grain than on the cross grain.Sand the end grain with fine sand paper and the cross grain with coarse grit they will take stain more evenly.
