Need to know how to get REALLY stuck green foam carpet pad (Mohawk from the 60's) off good hardwood floors.

Answers:
You might try a mild solvent (such as goof off) to loosen the adhesive. After you remove as much of the old adhesive as possible you will probably want to re-finish the floor. If you are you may just want to use a stripper for floors since it will dissolve the adhesive as well as the finish. Then refinish the floor with a quality finish (this is not an area you want to go cheap) only sand the floor if the boards are raised at the edges or uneven to level the floor out.

Other answers:
Sand it off... then refinish the floor.
Sand it off... then refinish the floor.
i'd try a plastic paint scraper, before sanding.
There is no easy way. First hand scrape the old pad to remove all pieces larger than 1/4" off. You must remove all the larger pieces before you sand or the sand paper will fill up and not work. Do NOT use any chemical remover, it will get in the wood and prevent you from refinishing. It's hard work. Just remember today people are paying $10 to $20 per foot for new wood.
do not sand !! never sand any old flooring of any kind. purchase a wallpaper scraper and work it off slowly you dont want to dig the wood. there is no easy way and no products that will work without ruinning the wood
Try buying a jug of laquer thinner and soaking the stubborn spots. Thinner dissolves most adhesives.

Laquer thinner dries real fast and should have no ill effects on you floors.
Try saturating it with hot water using a spray bottle doing a small area at a time. Do not use paint thinner it will produce poisionness fumes inside your home. If you use a sander, try 100 grit sand paper to start with, remember your sanding the pad off not the wood floor so press lightly. There is no easy way to do this and it will be time consuming, so take your time or you will mess up your wood floor.
I agree with 'rmisback'.

Plus the safest way is to try any chemicals on a small area first.

If it were me doing this I would have a fix the floor party and every one gets a plastic scraper or tweezers...whatever you have found that works best and safest beforehand. This is a long job but well worth it in the end...

Good luck.
Sometimes if you use a hair dryer it softens the sticky and will peel off or rub off
