I have just completed wiring my kettle and it's gone bang. What went wrong, any help?

what went wrong is that you tried to fix a $15 item. these things are disposable. get a new one..well I guess you have to now dont you. ha ha but I like to do this stuff too, I can say I havent been very successfull in the past so I have given up breaking things.
