How do you distress new naugahyde so it looks like old leather?
Answers:
Here is how I did it. I used it as a covering for a frame around a mirror in an "out of Africa" themed room. I used acrylic paint. My naugahyde was textured and very dark brown. I used burnt sienna, terra cota, and a dirty mustard yellow paint combination. I used rags that were damped to work the colors into areas that I wanted to look worn. The yellow especially is successful in accomplishing that. Then I would come over areas I'd yellowed with burnt umber in thin blurred lines to look like stress marks.
When I was finished, I covered the entire piece of fabric with a light coating of matte non-yellowing polyurethane spray sealer. This enables the paint to stay put but any thing else to be able to be wiped away.

You don't. Sorry. You might be able to do something with vinyl colors, but be careful because you could really mess it up and you won't be able to make changes.
drag it behind your car, then throw it away and go and buy some leather
