Here's a few links to survival books. The second link is free online that you can read. Lots of other stuff on the net, do a google search. Hope it helps.

Other answers:
you would need to kill and grow everything.
you would need to kill and grow everything.
in the dessert, you have to suck on a cactus - drinking and acupuncture all at once
Water you can get from Rain or Dew or a River or many plants have Sap that is drinkable.
Food you can Hunt, Fish, Dig up from the ground (roots/grubs etc).
If you know what to look for, you can survive quite well.
build a water still from plastic ( always carry bags when camping or in the wilderness) if in the desert. Test wild plant foods on your hands and lips many hours before eating them-then eat a small piece and wait for signs of sickness. Eat grubs and bugs. After all--your life is worth more than the "Fear Factor Challenge"
How do you think man survived before agriculture or the industrial revolution? You figure out which fruit, plants, nuts, berries, etc. are edible. The ones that make you sick are bad. You also have to hunt animals. If you don't know how to make tools, you wait to bump into a dead animal. Man's early tools were clubs (they figured out that hitting something like a rabbit with a rock or club was a good tool), then later they made spears and arrows.

Now water is something you can't live without. You have to figure out that you need water from a clean source, i.e., running water from a stream or brook. Stagnant or standing water will make you sick. That's bad. Without water, you'll die within 3 days. But it takes weeks to starve to death.

Out in the wild, there's plenty of chances to get food or water. And shelter! But out in the desert or in the snow, your chances are not as great that you'd survive without rescue.
HUH.this has to be a joke . im too much of a hillbilly to get it tho
It is pretty easy ~ eat the plants and nuts from the trees, forage for berries ~ drink the rain water or dew of the leaves.
first of all,, don't listen to just anybody,, like these people,, get a good book from the library and then go to a survival school!! none of these people giving you answers here has had to survive like that so they will give you wrong or stupid or misleading answers,, i went to many survival schools during my military career and you don't learn this in just a day or two,, and there are many different scenarios,, as in desert, ocean, artic, jungle, woods, etc,,,, be prepared to eat yuckee stuff and go thru a lot of hardships.
I don't mean to be trite, but where do think the food and water at the store comes from?

Water comes from lakes, rivers, streams or as rain.
Foods are raised (in the case of animals) or grown.

Living off the land is not only possible but can be interesting as well. I can honestly say, "I have never been lost in the woods in my life". However I recall being disoriented for about five days. I ate some wild berries, killed and cooked a couple of squirrels and a rattlesnake. All and all, not a bad experience. Would have liked to be a bit warmer at night but you can't have everything.
