How do you wire a 3 kw electric Heater up?

My dog, Singe a Pedigree Mongrel has chewed through the wire on my electric fire. Grandma needs it to keep warm! I've got no idea & previously received a massive shock after rewiring a kettle!
Whats the difference between - & +, does it matter?
I've no idea as Singe ate the plug?
I've purchased a new plug & i'm attempting to rewire the fire for Grandma after she lost Grandad in a unfortunate accident!
There is a 13amp fuse in the new plug but should I go to a 20 amp fuse for more heat output?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

I have found that electric fires are not very efficient.

May I suggest an alternative ?

I've often wondered why we rely on radiation and convection in these fires, when we all know that conduction is the most efficient form of heat transfer.

Why not get a pair of slippers and lay out the wires from the heater elements in the sole of the slipper. Your Grandma may need to wear insoles for comfort. I'm not a sparky so don't know if the soles shoudl be rubber or not.

I think the higher the rating the better protection from the fuse so go for 20 or 32 if you can

hope this helps

I assume that you've bared the ends of the wires. Place the cable through the cable grip hole in the plug. Then, MOST IMPORTANT:::
BROWN wire goes to the terminal in the plug marked "L" or "LIVE".
BLUE wire goes to terminal marked "N" or "Neutral"
GREEN & YELLOW wire goes to the terminal at the top marked "E" or "EARTH".
In every case make certain that there are no 'stray' wires around the terminals and make sure they are TIGHTLY SCREWED. Use a 13amp fuse in the plug (nothing bigger will fit so forget that one), tighten the cord grips (so that even if you accidentally pull on the cable it won't pull the wires out of the terminals), replace the plug cover, and away you go.
The size of the fuse has nothing to do with the heat output - it is purely a protective device to stop idiots from overloading a circuit which could then lead to a fire. Take great care if this really is the first time you've ever done this, and take your time - it can be a fiddly job if it's your first.
