spend some quality time at your local garden center...try to get plants that will bloom in various seasons, that way you'll always have some color in your garden...there's always the popular day lilies and hostas for summer bloom (hostas bloom twice)...they multiply everyear so a little goes a long way (i took one huge one and divided it into 3 plantings).tulips are popular for spring flowering.mums for fall flowering...i have several plants that grow various heights that i don't know the name of but are beautiful and i don't see in everyone's yard ( i like to be different )mix in a few baby bushes and you have a great low maintenance garden year after year..but leave room for your annuals.also there are some herbs that not only flower to add beauty, but will be useful in your daily cooking.

Hi Friend,
It would depend on if your wanting to have a path thru it or a little bench. If can be a rock garden with a tiny water fall or maybe a all over flower garden. Vegitable can be added also to a flower garden. Nothing like producing something to eat while your at it. Set down make yourself out a plan and go from there. Your local garden shop have all kinds of plants, on their tags they will give size the plant will grow and if they need sun or shade. I am doing mine soon too. Good Luck

It's late for me, and I'm ill, but email me and I'll be ok to help.

Make a list of what you would like to look at every day...flowers, evergreen, tropicals, succulent, cactus, rocks, etc...
Go to a plant nursery, and have someone help you pick out what you like. Buy some digging tools, some mulch, maybe wood chips, and begin your experiment!
