The overflow on my downstairs loo keep running, how do I stop it?

Answers:    you will have to adjust the hose down fill stopcock in the cistern

if you have a float/ball and rod, near should be an adjustment screw on top of the steep device that if you tighten/loosen will push the rod lower so it lower the water plane

if you have a bucket/style you can lower the bucket so the float will spark off quicker lowering your water height

if neither work, new riddle valves are inexpensive and to a certain extent easy to adaptation

on a side note, is the river flowing over the top of the overflow or is the overflow tube cracked allowing water to escape?
lower the horizontal in the cistern by adjusting the screw lying on the tank spout or bending the rod holding the float ball
