What are earth pigments and how can they be used in milk paints?
Answers:
The colors found in nature near the ground. Browns, blacks, berry colors, greens in all shades, stone colors, dirt colors, water shades. Find these colors in pulverized rock, boiled roots, berries, boiled leaves, you can sometimes find these pigments at health food and natural stores that can be mixed with milk paint.
I find that milk paint will hold up well as long as it isn't abused. It will seem to oxidize over time and will turn like a whitish finish over the color of the entire surface. I have found that very fine grain sand paper will take off this oxidation if you are careful you will not have to repaint when you are done.

I don't know if this is true, but my grandfather told me that they use to put rusted nails in milk paint for color. He used it on a barn. If it worked on a barn why not furniture. I would probably put polyurethane over it. I'd try it on an old piece of wood first.
