These are both correct however if you are trying to fix a leaky faucet be sure to replace the seat(they are usually brass and wear out before the washer.Replace with a stainless steel one) To replace the seat(when you have the stem out) use a seat wrench or large screwdriver and strong grip.Just unscrew and take to hardware store( to get the correct size and thread count).

Turn off the water, remove the handle, there will be a large nut you can remove, the faucet valve will come out. there is a washer on the bottom held in by a screw. remove it and replace the washer with an exact size washer. replace the screw and put it bact together. If it is a washerless faucet, you can get the replacement innards at a hardware store. Tell them the manufacturer of the faucet's name tp make it easy.

well depends on what kind you have the FIRST thing to do is shut off the water supply to it. the old ones (the kind that have two handles one for hot the other for cold ) all you had to do was unscrew the handle then take a wrench and remove the top part of the body below the handle the remove the washer and put a new one in.reassemble in reverse. the single handle ones are similar but have a set screw. (just remember to turn off the water supply or you are going to be very wet.)
