Is it OK to cut up an old propane cooking gas cylinder to make a barbeque?

remove the filler plug and run a hose from your car's exhaust for at least 30 minutes if possible run the hose all the way to the bottom of tank. this will also works for a auto gas tank repairs. fumes from the exhaust will purge the gas out of the tank. all liquid gas must be removed first

I like your idea to recycle old propane cylinders, but by the time you cut it up, add hinges, make a stand for it, add a grille, etc.....
I would go to a garage sale and buy one for a dollar!
And how are you cutting a perfectly straight parting line with an angle grinder? I would go to a machine shop where they have a large bandsaw with a steel blade. The wall thickness of these tanks must be substantial.....
Make sure there is no residual gas inside. Remove the valve fitting and purge out the gas-traces with a small hose connected to air-blower/vac.cleaner (blower side working) and the hose reaching right to the bottom of cylinder, atleast for 30 mins. After removing the hose, drop couple of lighted matches, with you safely protected, to check inertness of inside contents. Happy cutting-:), yes, angle-grinder is okay. Is it worth the trouble, cutting, fitting hinges etc, than buy one off-?, unless you like to do it yourself.
Most propane companies offer disposal. May be a small fee.... OR if you still use propane for something, take the old bottle to a cylinder exchange and get a newer model.
