Seeding my Lawn - Is this method ok?
1. Use top soil to fill in the hole
2. Sprinkle grass seeds over the region
3. Push in the seeds about 1/4 inch deep into soil
4. Sprinkle Starter Fertilizer (that is high in Nitrogen and Phosporus to promote strong roots growth) over the top soil
5. Water the area lightly so that it is damp but not swamped since the seeds are shallowly planted.
6. Optionally cover the area lightly with mulch (e.g. maybe some dead grass) so as to keep teh area moist but still able to see sun and keep birds away.
7. Keep the area damp (watering multiple times if necessary a day) until it starts sprouting
Does that make sense?
Thanks

Yes,sounds good.I have even heard that after you fill in the low spots make sure you pack it some also. Then when your ready to seed, mix up some potting soil with your seed. This helps keep birds and other wildlife from eating or taking the seed.May also use straw to protect it plus the straw will hold in some moisture. best of luck

Yes!! Looks like you did your research!

I would alter step #3. No need to push the seeds an. Sow grass is just leaving the seeds on top of the ground.
Also step #6. Mulch w/straw. After the seeds sprout, the straw will desegregate.
Other than that, great!
great, except that the fertilizer goes under the seed (roots grow down)
Sounds perfect, but I would not use mulch to cover the area.
skip it
the holes, that's called aeration
seed the s..t out it (birds will eat half of it)
rake out a load of triple mix (200-300 lbs for a 40 x 40 area)
water (good soak) 3-4 times in a week
done
