Air Conditioner Set-Up For Sliding Glass Door?
The problem is that our bedroom has 7ft sliding glass doors and no other windows. What's the best way to use an a/c unit in this room? Any recommendations?
Answers:
For the time being you could set the a/c on the floor at the door with the unit slightly tilted to the outside so the water does not run into the room and slide the door against the a/c and the a/c against the door frame but you would need to seal the door opening from the top of the a/c to the top of the doorway. A more permanent way to air condition the room short of a central unit would be to mount the a/c through the wall. Portable air conditioners are available but do require a vent hose to be vented to the outside. A larger unit could be mounted in a window in an other room and a fan could be used to blow the cool air into the bedroom.
The best type of installation for your situation would be what is known as a "split unit". This is a unit that like a central unit the compressor and condenser unit are outside and just the tubing comes through the wall. The evaporator coils (the ones that get cool) and a fan are mounted on the wall inside the house just like a picture or a plasma TV.
