What do you think of the Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machines?

We rent one three times a year, from LOWES, and clean our carpets...
We have a dog and a cat, (though, they dont mess on the carpet, they still put an "odor" on it, with thier hair and body odor), so the wife scrubs it three times a year.
It does a wonderful job, it pulls out dirt and leaves the place smelling fresh. I am amazed at how much dirt gets in the carpet, over the year...(but, I am the type that walks around the house with my shoes on, something the wife has fits about, but I wasnt brought up to be comfortable, NOT to wear shoes everywhere).

I swear by them, I have moved home 11 times in 3 years and have used rug doctor machines to clean all my carpets. They get a thumbs up from me.

Carpet cleaning machines are just not worth the effort...I rented one once....took forever to get my carpet done, and it really didn't look any different than when I started...Next time I called Sears and it was worth every penny...their machines are much more powerful, they are in and out in no time and I SWEAR you could see the room brighten up as they worked...There are a lot of companies that offer deals to clean carpets and upholstery...save yourself the work and hire one of them...it really is worth it!

They are good but if you plan on needing your carpet cleaned often (more than 3 times a year) You might want to look into buying one. I finally ended up doing that, the machine I bought was under 200 bucks and well worth it. Now I can clean the carpet anytime, and don't have to worry about lugging around a machine in the car from the store and back. They will not clean as powerful as a commercial cleaning company, if they did theat then they would be out of business of course, so if you have tremendiously bad stains set in for a long time try to spot clean those up the best you can first. But all in all, it gets the job done and is perfect in keeping your carpet fresh and clean looking.
