Make sure that you are using gas that is mixed with the 2-cycle oil or you could burn up the trimmep after you get it started. This is the things that you have to do on most trimmers. First prime the trimmer with gas. The primmer will be a small rubber bubble on the engine. It will need to be press 3 to 5 times. Second put the choke in the full choke position. Third, pull the pull cord about 5 times. Forth, place the choke in the half choke position. Fifth, Pull the pull cord about 5 more times and it should start. If it starts at in the half choke position let it run for a few minutes and then place it in the zero choke position. If it doesn't start in the half choke position, move it to the zero choke position and then try starting it again.

Prime it, put it on choke. Pull the pull cord (should start for a quick second) put it on half choke and pull until it starts and let it run for a couple seconds and pop it on no choke. Priming it can take anywhere from 3 to 12 or so times.
And like another one said. Make sure its got 2 cycle oil/gas mix (not engine oil, 2 cycle oil for air cooled 2 cycle engines) or you'll be buying a new trimmer. If you don't know the ratio. You're safe with using a 32:1 ratio anytime. Thats 4 ounces to one gallon of gas.
