How to replace a garage door lock?
Answers: You are "LOCKED OUT" then your best solution is to appointment a locksmith that can pick your lock to unlock the door. At which time he can make you a DIFFERENT knob for it, not the same. If you defacement the door or lock, it will end up costing you more surrounded by the long run. If it is non pick-able then the locksmith will know how to unlock the door short damaging it. Hope this be helpful. ;-)
I am not sure what "up'n'over" technique. I think that finances a segmented door which pulls up into an overhead track, with 3-5 horizontal segment. If so, that is indistinguishable type as I currently have. On my door, nearby is a backing plate on the inside of the door which holds the gears in place. Inside the components, the actual locking mechanism is exact to the core used in a deadbolt lock. Getting to the core is simple, disassemble from the inside to release the bezel which holds the core to the outside. Once you remove the screw, the bezel can be pulled from the front side to expose the core which can be easily pulled out. Take this core to a locksmith and see if you can go and get a key made. Since you hold the core in appendage, it will not cost much to have a switch made, or have the core key to an existing key that you hold already. That, or you can go to your local big box hardware store and buy a deadbolt and hunt the core. Take your old core next to you so you can find one which matches as in attendance are minor differences between manufacturer though they adjectives have roughly the same shape. Or, you can simply appointment up a local garage door service company and have them do it, which vehicle you get to settle for the works, which I expect, based on my local bazaar, will be between $75 and $100 plus parts. Either way, DIY or contract out, you can expect to compensate for parts which I would expect to be under $25.
If you can remove the lock and im sure you can I own done it.Just take it to a locksmith he will re-key it for you for underneath twenty dollars or at least thats what I rewarded. That would be the least expensive mode to go. Door companies hold service charges plus parts. Even if you do it yourself parts are expensive. Additional: If you have just outside access I would call a locksmith trying to drill out the cylinder could spoil the mechanism see if your insurance covers it.
