Does Salt & vinegar help stop fading in clothes?
Answers:
The enemies of color in fabric (besides wearing them) are heat, light, chemicals and friction.
Never wash or rinse dark and bright clothes in anything but cold water. Test your detergent on an inconspicuous place on fabrics. Some will cause fading even if they claim they won't. I do know that a quick soak in a full washtub with a cup of vinegar is said to set dye in new clothes. Expect to see some bleeding the first time a new thing is washed, hence the great advice to always separate and wash like colors together. New black pants washed with a new red shirt will leave both things worse for wear.
Turn all intensly colored things inside out before washing. Wash smaller loads with carefully sorted colors. Detergents based on baking soda will be more gentle on colors. Hand wash in very gentle detergents, preferrably liquids, like Woolite. Ivory Snow and Deft (sp?) for baby clothes are quite gentle and won't leave as much chemical residue.
If you really value that colorful item, NEVER put it in the dryer! Heat will murder it and the agitation and rubbing won't do it any good, either. Hang it in the shower or on a dryer rack. In a pinch, many colored things can stand a head start on the clothes line, but do take them down before they are bone dry as sunshine has a bit of a bleaching effect. And your clothes will smell better than if they'd gone through the dryer. Iron on the lowest heat setting that works, again on the wrong side of the fabric. Good luck!

No, but salt helps to extract oil from clothes. For example, when you spill oil on a shirt, you can usually put salt on it to draw out the oil.
No, but I think vinegar helps by itself. Good luck.
Dark-colored clothes, such as Black,Navy Blue,Dark Brown, Dark Reds and Greens, will fade if washed in hot water,or with clothes, that are not the same colors,as theirs. Always separate these colors, then wash and rinse them in cold water. Light colors such as Yellow,Pink, should also be washed and rinsed in cold water. I recommend using "Tide or Cheer" with "Color Guard". Your clothes will keep that fresh look all the time.
I saw that on a t.v. show. Never tried it though.
