How can I make a "hugger comforter", either from an existing comforter or from fabric and batting?

They're SO expensive and I have 5 boys!! We are getting into new bunkbeds and I'd love for them to have these. I have searched and can not find a pattern. I am hoping one of you crafty people can help me out. I can sew fairly well and do some quilting--but I am pattern dependent. Thanks!

Buy 1 and use it for a pattern. Or just scope out how they are made by looking at one in the store.
