Answers:
yeah you pull the toilet and the wax ring and then feel the floor to see how big the area is. cut that out and it will most likely be 3/4 plywood or pressboard. you can set a circular saw for just over 3/4 so you can cut out the old flooring. then see if you can match up with the old flooring joists by taking out a little more or less (start small). then you can add more support to the floor if you wish. joists are usually 2X10 or 2X12 not sure its been a while but you can use small as you are hopefully only going to span a few feet i would use 2X4 if its under 3 foot square but more than that i would go a little wider board. just make sure that if you add boards that run the same as the original flooring joist that you anchor them to the old subfloor by just placing them in the hole and have them longer than the hole and just put a couple screws in each end and then drop in your new subfloor and make sure is secure before you put down the final screws. and then i would add just one thing dont use pressboard if you can help it as its a near water application.

Although I don't have an advice for you, I just wanted to thank you for asking a legitimate question in the Do-It-Yourself question. Thank you!

All others are asking some pathetic questions in this category. See for yourself.

It's not enough. The plumber should know it before, it's not your fault, it's his. It's dangerous also if it falls down and brakes it can cut you. My advise is to put some nice solid concrete under the toilet and bolt it down. You can put some cement under it also. You can't move it after that, but at least you'll have a solid thing.
