Plan your day or days around the weather forecast.
Get tables for small items so you can group similar things together. You can also use boxes turned upside down for tables or spread cloths or tarps on the ground. Make sure everything is clean! Advertise in local paper, penny-saver, etc. Put up signs at nearby intersections the night before. Put a start and end time on the signs. Get one or two people to help you. Be ready at least one hour early! Try to price everything over $1.00. Use color code stickers for 75, 50, 25 cent items. You can also group these in boxes and let people dig through. Have plenty of change and keep your money in a fanny pack. Designate one person to greet, answer questions, keep an eye on things(sad, but true--some few will "lift". Be prepared to negotiate prices. People LOVE to get you to lower your price. Have a good time!

To have a successful yard sale you need to advertise well. Nice stenciled signs that you can read well from a distance. Make sure all of your items are clean and wiped down. Make the price right (don't overprice)--make people an offer for something if they look interested. Be friendly and helpful. You can even go so far as to have free coffee and cookies or something. You can play decent music (nothing loud).
