Are M8 Nylon Locknuts really this hard to tighten!?!?!?

yes they can be very hard to tighten this is what keeps them from coming loose with vibration.

You might have them cross threaded. Back it off and look for flattened threads. Make sure its on square to the bolt.

Only if you're not using a spanner.... or as the USA call them... a wrench! There is no reason why an M8 locknut should be so dififcault to tighten other than its the wrong thread, its locked up already or you have cross threaded it!!
Normally it is easy to tighten but hard to loosen. May be it has gone on cross-thread. Open and check damage to threads.
If your using M8 flathead bolts with a socket or wrench? either way , to know for sure use a torque wrench with the correct setting. Nylon nut or aircraft nuts . Are a pain in the ***. They should be difficult all the way until it seats. But if it hasnt seated but seams harder and harder to tighten then stop and check yourself. It should not become more difficult .It should just stay the same.
Yes, they can be very hard to tighten. But also check and make sure the nut is not cross threaded on the bolt. If it is you will feel resistance right after you start turning. If this is the problem you might have striped the nut and will need a new one to get it to go on right.
