How do you unclog a drain without having to buy Drano?

I need a home remedy for this problem. I heard something about Vinegar or soemthing.

Answers:
There are a couple of ways....

We have a mechanical snake we can run down the drain, when the kids do something to the toilet.

IF you suspect it is organic materials you can try:

Pour 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain.

3. Pour in one cup of vinegar into the drain.

4. Cover the drain with a lid and wait fifteen minutes. The baking soda and vinegar will have a chemical reaction, breaking down the clog.

5. Rinse the drain with boiling water to clear it out.

6. Repeat if necessary.

You may use a plunger to loosen it up

Use a sewer snake!
Someone told me to use a plunger and let hot water run for 5minutes
Pour baking soda on the drain, then pour some vinegar over. It will foam up. then pour a whole lot of boiling water down the drain. It works sometimes. I have better luck with a plunger.
COKE MIGHT DO THE JOB!!!
get a good plunger and plunge away
Heat up a small bottle of apple cider vinegar in a pan. Don't boil it just get it good and hot. Take a box of Baking Soda and pour half the box in your drain. Then pour the hot cider over top the Baking Soda. It will fizz and foam and take your clogged drain problem away. Depending on what is making it clog, it should do the trick in one application. If not try it again. If your drains still are clogged then may I suggest you try an industrial strength unclogged solution found in most hardware stores. If all else fails call a plumber.

Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful!
While a plunger is probably the safest, check the link below for some tips from eHow users on other things that might work. Good luck!
pour ammonia down the drain it eats hair,,,,,,,i clean my hair brushes then rinse well.
If it's hair clogs you're after, i saw a neat little inexpensive thing at Wal-Mart hardware / plumbing isle. It's like a 2 foot strip type thing with a handle, and it has these backwards looking plastic or hard rubber teeth on it , and you stick it in the drain and it pulls the hair out.
