I am converting my garage and need to learn how to lay the bricks to close in the garage door. Where do I go?
Answers:
In the UK, Wickes building stores are the best place to start. They do leaflets/guides on most projects. And their stuff is cheaper than most builder's merchants.
You may have to get planning permission for change of use of the garage, if it is to be "habitable", I guess an "office" isn't habitable like a lounge is, so you shouldn't need it. If you're in a conservation area, you'll have problems with the Council.
Don't take out the lintel above the entrance! Hopefully, the existing brickwork above is set into the lintel, and you just brick in the opening. If it is a detached garage, you may have a problem that the pillars holding up the lintel are too narrow to safely chip out a half of a brick every other course to fit in a new one lengthways to join in the new brickwork. Use breezeblocks for the inside, just lay them to fit the hole! You will have to have an air-gap between the two, with insulating slabs as well; all this should be explained in the How to leaflet.

THE HOME DEPOT. THEY HAVE BOOKS AND KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE. THEY ALSO HAVE CLASSES ON SUBJECTS LIKE BRICKLAYING.

If you have a building supply store near you go there and ask them. They should have the info for you or be able to tell you how. Here in the US we would go to Lowes or Home Depot. Good Luck
