in ground electric code question?

I need to run some electric from a breaker in my garage, to an area in a covered building.

More specifically, I would like to hook up 1 light/fan combo (with a switch), and 3 or 4 outlets. It will be approximately 100-120 foot run from my breakers to my junction box in the area I am wiring.

I could use advice for the following, as I can not find my code book:

1. How many sets of wire should I run? What kind of wire/sheilding?

2. What guage wire, and what size breakers should I use?(will the long run need a larger breaker and guage wire than usual?)

3. How deep should I dig for the wire runs?

4. Am I correct in thinking that I can run flex from the breaker box (and junction box) into the ground, and then the sheilded wire can run without it in the ground?

Answers:
IF you want a 20A circuit with that long a run, I would use 10 Gauge wire, ... 10/3 with Ground. Purchase wire for direct burial, bury about 30" deep and you are fine. Good luck.

Other answers:
Read the NEC (National Electrical Code) manual. Also check with local gas, cable, etc. before you dig.

You would have to use UF rated wire.I suggest you run conduit (pvc/buried is cheap) then run thhn through it.The 1 thing I have learned is if you think you will need only 2 outlets, within a year you will wish you had run enough wire for 6.
