5 minute delay on central A/C compressor?

my central A/C compressor seems to have a 5 minute delay. The inside fan starts a full 5 minutes before the A/C compressor kicks in. Is this normal or should i have it checked? The house seems to be cooling just fine. except for the 5 minute compressor delay, everythings good. Thank you very much

The five minute delay is a safety measure to prevent your compressor from restarting to quickly during a power blip. rapid cycling can ruin a compressor.

I live in louisiana and i ordered the timer cause it saves you money on cooling cost.. sometimes especily at night just moving the air around may prevent your compressor from kicking on..but thats all it is ..be thankful you have it. some central air units does not come with it and you have to order it...so yes it is normal..
