What is an easy way to remove carpet from a wood floor?

I am wanting to remove a really old carpet from a floor that has wood underneath. The wood is in OK shape and I would like to not have to refinish it right now. The carpet is coming up fine but the backing is still glued to the floor. Does anyone have any suggestions to remove it other than lots of scraping.

Answers:
Wow. When I did it, I just cut and tore, but your's may need more help. Mine was glued to the floor on the edges as well. You may be able to add water to it and loosen the glue, but I did lots of scraping. Good luck on your project.

Have you tried spraying an area of the backing that is stuck? Use an old spray bottle & mist the padding & let it sit for 5 minutes & see if it helps to loosen the padding. If it does, then lightly wet the whole floor with a the bottle OR use a mop & bucket to wet the whole area. Add a capful of bleach to your bucket & it will disinfect it as you go! Scraping WILL damage your floor. You say it is in good shape, so you should go easy & only use PLASTIC SCRAPERS!
I used a flat edged shovel to take up my stuck carpet & foam padding.
