I have an Electric Voltage / Stud / Metal detector for use on walls t see if there's anything underneath. It's brand strange and most of the functions seem to work. The lone problem is it seems to detect AC voltage on freshly about any surface, including my wardrobe. I'm sure I'm using it correctly. Is within anything that could be screwing beside the results? Wireless network? Heating?
Answers: Probably static electricity. Many of those detectors own nylon pads on the support so they slide smoothly over the wall surface without scratch. Nylon is a great producer of static electricity. Try dabbing the nylon pad with a drizzly paper towel to lessen the static charge and try again. If that doesn't work I'd acquire a new one.
Static, from low humidity.
