Fan problem...need help fixing it.?
Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this problem? I don't have too much money, or else I would just go buy another fan. It still works (yes, even the lights work). But its hanging by the wires now.
Thanks!!
Answers:
If I am right the cable for the light come through a threaded tube and you have something like a flying saucer hanging below the fan (the light fitting). Turn the power off and disassemble the light fitting. you may find a nut inside that will allow you to refix the upper half to the tube. The other design is where the tube comes right through the fitting to the bottom light glass. You are then missing a "cup nut" that has fallen on the floor.
Good luck regards Slarty

Usually, the light fixture fits up into the fan and there are 3 or 4 small screws that hold it in place.

If it is all working fine now get away from it. Since it hasn't blown a fuse or hit the floor the wire connections must be reasonably sound, maybe find the breaker that powers it and turn it off. Double check that there is no power to it, find some electrical tape (NOT DUCT TAPE, ELECTRICAL TAPE!) and carefully and neatly wrap some around each set of wires, especially at the joints. IF YOU SEE ANY BARE WIRES AND ARE NOT 100% SURE THE POWER IS OFF - ABORT! There should be a set screw or nut or hole to push the light part onto or into. look around on the floor for any parts that may of fallen due to vibration. If you have any broken lamps around, scavenge them for the nut or bolt or finial that holds it up. After making certain there are no bare or loose wires, carefully stuff the whole mess back up in there and tape it if you have to. Use it minimally, on low so it doesn't wobble too much, until you find someone with half a brain and some electrical skills.
You need to line the holes up on the light fixture part with the holes in the fan body and the screws will go back into the fan.
What ever you do, Don't mess with the live wires..if you are unable to pay, for someone to see what problem you got... cause it might be more that what you think. The problem might be all the way to the celling, in the support, of the fan.. So talk to all of your friends, someone must know a person that knows about this. And might do it for free...So happy hunting for that person, that knows his/her stuff.. Buy them some (lunch, drink,) a big smile, works well too.. Good luck.
