Why do people think going to the Millitary is a bad thing?

Enlisting is a contract that supposedly ends on a fixed date. With the sort of Washington liars now in charge of things it can mean you'll be forced to remain past any deal you have with them. Plus the advertised bonuses and special rebate packages are now being yanked back and nothing but problems get tossed into your lap when the military bureaucracy gets SNAFU'd. They spend gazillions on TV advertisements but can't get health benefits to crippled vets coming home beat up.

People think it is bad because its a job that can kill you. The military has a large amount in 37 days I will have completed my 4 years in the active service all though I have hated it I still dont regreat ever joining.

the military is a good thing for single people, you get to travel all over, they pay for your uniform, health insurance, food, housing. its great. but if you are married it makes it harder. with year long deployments you could miss a big part of your childrens life and grow apart from your spouse. and making your family move all the time can be tough, especially if you have teenagers.
i dnt think that joining any defence force is a bad thing. wen i was 16 i was contemplating joing the army reserve myself.
i believe that if say in the army bcos u r forced to follow strict guidelines u r more disciplined. u can make great life long friends ther also plus ur defending ur country
Who ever said it was a bad thing? They will pay for you schooling. Train you. House you cheap. The military will do a lot of good for you.

I dont think going into the military is a bad thing at all! I was in the Army for five years and now I have a great paying job and the GI Bill plus a VA Home Loan. People think its bad now because everyone in the military ends up going to Iraq. If you want to go into the military then go for it! Dont worry about what other people say! Good Luck!
1) The military has received a bad rap because of the liberal neo-historians, such that teach in the Ivory towers.
2) Too many people "think" they can't or won't take orders.
I see this as much a problem of child rearing as anything else. (too many latch key kids with too many choices)
The Republic of Korea soldiers have a choice of where they wish to serve. Either their own army, or ours (for 4 years, then they get out and go to college) Irregardless of where they serve, ALL eligible men WILL serve in one capacity or the other.
I personally wish we had a mandatory service period. (at least 3 years, but should be 4 with the branch of service of choice) and ALL eligible men and women. (including the children of the senators and congressmen, president and vice pres.)
This would allow for everyone to appreciate what our men and women in uniform do every day, it would also allow for cross-cultural experiences, and break down some of the B/S prejudices still rampant in the U.S.
This would also shut those protesters that picket a soldiers funeral THE HELL UP!

Take my advice. Join the United States Navy. You will get 3 squares a day , and a nice clean bunk each night. Not some fox hole in the middle of the jungle, or desert. And when you get out, you will have a better shot before anyone else at getting the job you apply for. They allmost allways look highly on person with military service in their backgrounds.. Go for it !
