I am going to the United States Navy.. But i getting so much negativity about it when people find out...Why?

I feel the Navy can and will benefit me in the long run but I dont know how to deal with all the negative responds and the looks when people find out.

Answers:
Speaking from personal experience. The US Navy was the best thing that ever happened to me. I came from a very poor background and way before there was all of the financial aid available today for college. Not know what I really wanted to do and not having the money to do it, I joined the Navy. Got my head on straight and learned a good trade. I have had a very successful career in the elctrical construction business and owe it all to the Navy. Apply yourself and your opportunities are unlimited. Not only that, the satisfaction of serving your country is impossible to duplicate. Anchors Away!

Because people dont like what bush is doing to people so they dont want their kids to join any part of the US army. But go for it! It will help you so much!

are you pretty?maybe that's why..
Don't worry about the negativity--it's nothing but noise. Focus on what you want in life and go for it. Be proud for serving.
Because foreign policy since Bush took office is so dangerous and scary... the U.S. has never been held in such low esteem by the rest of the world. Also, our military, whether Navy or not, is currently killing people overseas. Most people in the world, besides American Christians (strange, i know) and conservatives, don't dig this at all. But good luck, it could have it's benefits: travel, money for college, new skills, etc...
It is your decision and you do whats right for you.People will always complain about something. That's just human nature.Join the Navy and I thank you for defending our country.
just remember all of the people that have an opinion against you doing what U know is right, wont be paying your rent or buying food for your family do right for yourself first
I'm having the same problem too. I think it's due to the fact that many people do not support the Iraqi War and the likelihood of losing your life for something that's widely unpopular. But, that should't discourage people like us from joining the armed forces and taking advantage of all the opportunities available. Go for it.
You are the one that has to live your life. If you want to
enlist in the Navy to better yourself, do it. If you are
unsure of what to do, put it on hold for a while.
If you let other people make your decisions, you will never grow. Good luck whatever you decide.
Be your own judge. But remember, you may wind up in Iraq driving supply trucks to Bagdad. I know there is no ocean in Iraq, but I also know that several squids wound out dead there.
Maybe people have a problem with the fact that your a girl? Whatever it is, it's their problem. It takes alot of guts to enlist during wartime...please allow me to thank you in advance for your courage and patriotism. I appreciate your efforts. Besides, when you get out, you should be able to attend college for free, if you haven't gone yet. You'll also be a highly disciplined person, and that will always be a benefit. Good luck, and stay safe!
It's the war.But I think you are doing a very kool thing, joining. I was an army brat, and it helped are whole family out. All my relatives are from some kind of military. uncle's Marines, cousins in Air Force and Navy. We have grown up with respect,as well as a better life style. You need to remember your doing this for yourself, and in a few yr.s the same person's are going to look at you in a different way. You will have done something and they will probably be doing the same thing they are now. You'll be growing in many different way's. Some might never get it. But if you need the support, Then you should sit down and find a way to ask them for it. If you don't need them for support then forget it. Not worth wasting brain space on!
why not try out with the seals? ya know, amphibious assault thingy? if not sure, play that socom 3 game, its based on the actual seals itself..
happy easter
just ignore them...I was raised in a Naval Family it was great.I think the reason why is because the Navy never really hit the land when a war is going on unless it is the special forces but the Navy is there to protect the water and they have all the fighter jets on the ships..Just remember that it is just their opinion and you go and ahve a great time.
cuz people in the military can be real dill weeds, if they stay in too long ya know
Right now alot of people do not support the military. Just ignore them and remember that what you are doing is for you and your life, and to protect thier ability to think what they want. Regester with NKO so that you can prepare for boot camp and use the message boards on there under the reference tab to talk to those of us who are in the navy if you need help. I check the boards on there at least once a day. Welcome aboard shipmate.
