Starting a lawn mower?

I have a lawn mower that has not been started for about 1 year. I left gas in it for the winter. I keep pulling the cord and it cranks, but no attempt to start. What is a good way to get it going?

Answers:
Change the spark plug and gas. You didn't mention where you kept it inside or out. If you keep your mower outside and changing the gas and plug doesn't help then pull the crank housing off the top and you will find what's basically a magneto with magnets embedded in the side, If there is any rust here sand with a fine emory cloth (this is where your spark comes from) Also if kept out side sometimes the rings will stick, you can remove the plug and spray a little WD40 inside the cylinder for this.

Other answers:
Buy a new sparkplug. That's a good place to start.

you might want to check for water in your gas tank
Take out the spark plug and clean it, take out the air filter and clean that. Those two are the simple fixes, after that, you may be looking at having to clean the carb, and fuel lines.
I dont know i dont mow Sorry i was no help.
check and see if it has a primer button on it down by the carburetor If it dose pump it a few times maybe that will help or drain all the fuel out of it and start with fresh
did you prime it first? also make sure you have oil and the spark puugs are good. The fule might be bad it dose not last taht long so you might want to dump the fule and retry.
First, check the oil. If it is low, add oil. Next, prime it. If it turns, which I assume you're saying it does, what may be happening is a poor connection of the spark plug(s). Check if electricity is able to flow through it/them into the piston(s).
One year with untreated gas. a new sparkplug is a waste of money. period.. the usual thing people think to replace is the sparkplug. one year with untreated gas, your carb has gum deposits from rancid gas, if you don't feel like it or know how to rebuild a carb, get a shop to rebuild the carb, this means a rebuild kit with gaskets, the carb torn apart, soaked in a bath type carb cleaner, blown out with carb cleaner and compressed air, and put back together... I'll bet you with a little starting fluid or gas shot down the carb, it'll run for a second or so until it uses it up. This means for certain its not getting gas. You can check and make sure the gaslines are not clogged, take the fuel line off at the carb, let it go real quick and watch and see if its flowing well.
btw, be sure to change the oil! and fill to the full line with fresh!
