Using a cover is a quick fix. They make really nice, good quality fitted or non-fitted covers now. I would also suggest declawing your cats' front claws. Some don't like to have that done to their cats, but I had it done to mine, just in the front. Believe me, it saved my furniture! She has plenty of protection with her back claws and doesn't damage my furniture. If you don't declaw, just be prepared to go through furniture. Fixing it to resell can be very expensive if it's done right. Good luck!
