Seriously, depending on what is on it now, (if it is a gloss finish) you can take paint thinner or remover to take off the gloss. If you want to restain it, I'd recommend sanding (they do have liquid sander out there - EASY). If you want to paint it, do so with the Behr Floor paint or stain (available at Home Depot)(also, rated #1 in Consumer Reports for the last 3 years). The stain comes in several different colors in either solid or semi-transparent.
