what can help reduce I.R. heat?

Insulation that looks like metallic bubble wrap is reported to reflect significant amounts of UV radiation, and offer some thermal also. I do not trust this product as it will cause the roof to "cook" twice as fast.
Other answers:
Fiberglass insulation in your attic, will take it away, or even blown in insulation, will stop it from coming down into the home and making it an oven...
You may try putting large sheets of plastic up outside your home (if its one storied), so that the solar heat will hit this and the shadow will be on the house... to be cooler...
On the windows, get window treatments, (plastic you can put on the windows, that will reflect the sun and rays outward and keep the rooms comfortable, LOWES has them in all kinds of shades and colors).
