Answers: The yard of fabric you stipulation would depend on what you wanted it to look similar to (and the width of the fabric). Sometimes you can find pattern in store, specifically if you needed a frilly design or something more complicated.
A simple shower curtain would be easy to sew because it's primarily a long, lined rectangle. Measure how long you'd want it to be (from floor to curtain rod) and write that down. The measure how general you want it to be (wall to wall). Write that down and then append several inches to the number (the curtain wont be tight, it'll have extra fabric). About 20 extra inches would be satisfactory.
These number are the final measurements of the curtain, but you'll need more textile than that for seam allowances, and possibly a pocket for a rod at the top (you might just use rings to hang up it, I don't know what your doing here).
For example.
If you wrote down that the final curtain needs to be 72+20 within. wide x 84 contained by. long, and your fabric is 36 inches far-reaching, then you'd necessitate about 3 section to go across and roughly speaking 3 yards to draw from to the floor. Multiply these and you'd need in the order of 9 yards of cloth, just for a simple flat curtain.
By the mode, if the fabric costs $3 per patio, then this will twirl up costing about $30. It would be cheaper to walk to wal-mart and buy a shower curtain for $12 already made.

I didn't even mention the bin liner. The measurements would be the same as for the regular curtain, so that's more or less another 9 yards, and another $18.

Measure the width of your shower the multiply it by 2. Add 2" for a 1" hem on any side. That will give you the span. Measure from the shower rod to the floor and add 2", that will provide you the length.
In the most basic sense a TUB/Shower nouns is 52 to 54 inches. Allowing for whatever length; top to floor YOU CHOOSE; consider the FABRIC and it's reaction to water; and after effects within retaining that water/moisture; even if you add a vinyl liner.
Winging it shouldn't be an issue at adjectives fro someone familiar next to a sewing machine and the flair to either device, or follow measurement suggestions. It's most commonly a rectangle, and should be hemmed; hold a ROD POCKET on the top edge for the ROD it have to go through OR something more over-elaborate using some GROMMIT type inclusion.
