I want to build a couple window boxes for flowers. What type of wood is best suited for outdoor use.?

Answers:
Plain old western red ceder holds up great for many many years and just looks better every year. or any untreated wood will work if you keep it painted and maintained. (paint dont stick to treated)

Other answers:
Use Pressure treated lumber (first choice), cedar (2nd choice) or redwood (expensive!). PT lumber will not rot, period, as long as it is CCA .4

pressure treated cedar.
maple or spruce
Redwood or cedar work good outside and look nice. I would recommend pressure treated and then some sort of water sealer or stain to prevent rotting in wet weather.
CEDAR YES BUT NOT PRESSURE TREATED.
YOU CAN FIND STAIN OR PAINT BUT THEY USE CHEMICALS IN( P.T.) THAT MAY DAMAGE YOUR PLANTS
CEDAR
I agree, the cedar, it keeps fleas and misquitos away also.
What ever you like, but not pressure treated if you plan to use it for plants, the chem. WILL bleed out and kill your plants. All woods will require some maintenance it all depends on how much care you want to do. Good Luck
