Does anyone have any tips on having a rummage sale?
Answers:
Put out a lot of eye catching signs with large lettered directions. Also have it on a weekend-Fri.,Sat.,Sun.around the first of the month when a lot of people get there welfare & social security checks. Have a lot of change and be prepaired to negotiate prices.

Put up a lot of signs and balloons. Also, be prepared for people to come even as early as 5:30 in the morning. Make sure you have plenty of change, 1's, 5's 10's and 20's, ahead of time. Also make sure you have help because when one person comes, many others seem to come at the same time. I also try to price as much as I can before hand and selling canned soft drinks is always a hit on a hot day. Good luck!

Any type of sale preceded by an adjective ending in "age" such as "rummage" or "garage" is usually "garbage" and the best bet would be to set it all out for the local sanitation department's next regularly scheduled pick up day .
Have plenty of change. Make sure you don't charge too much for your items. I always have grocery bags and charge so much per bag for what a person can fill it with on clothes.
Use the bright big signs to advertise and take them down when finished.
Some stuff is junk - put it in a junk bag or rag bag...Make the prices easy to add up - like only .25, .50, 1.00, ...
At the end of the day or end of the sale if it is several days do a bag sale or a half price sale --- it will help u not have to carry so much stuff to the thrift store/ goodwill store.
Hang up all clothes, organize all things, make sets of things...
please don't be disappointed with the prices - a vase which cost you 30 dollars may get an offer of 50 cents.
If you can get neighbours to have a sale on the same day you will attract more customers and can share the publicity. Put a sign at the end of the road.
Be careful nobody goes into your house while you are busy outside.
That all sounds a bit negative - just have fun!
Yes, save yourself the time and headache! Donate the items to a charity/thrift store, and take the appropriate deduction at tax time. Financially much more equitable, and much less work!
