How do I remove a broken light bulb? No broken glass...?

Yesterday the glass bulb part separated from the metal screw part. It was a cheap dollar store light bulb with obviously now cheap adhesive connecting the two. I am now stuck with just the metal connector perfectly screwed into the socket. Cannot use a cut potato as there are no jagged edges to stick it into.
Any suggestions?

Answers:
A pair of needle nose pliers always works for me. Make sure the breaker is off..

Other answers:
needle nose plies and for god sake unplug the lamp or cut the circut breaker off

Myself, I never use a potato...

I use a broom handle (after making sure the switch is off), and jam it up there and turn it...

Or, if that doesnt work, then I take a pair of needle nose pliers and grab the silver part and twist it , or maybe even collapse it in the middle and then grab the two pieces so that I can unscrew it that way.

I dont like anything wet, jammed up in a socket, so that when I put a new bulb in there it will still have moisture and may short circuit it, or the acid from the potato juice may rust the socket itself...

I with you well..

Turn off the power to that light, INSURE that power is OFF
use a pair of needle nose pliers to reach into the fixture and remove the metal fight bulb base.
BE SURE THE POWER IS OFF!!!
get a wrench...that should help at least bend it so you can use your hands to take it out

good luck
Unplug it. Use needle nosed pliers if you can get a grip on a piece of the metal.

Put sticky tape on the tip of a broom handle.
After making SURE the power is off I have used a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the metal edge of the light bulb and carefully unscrew it.
Put the light on ebay and buy another one that doesn't have Dollar Store bulbs in it.
If there is a Lowe's in the area, go there and solicite advice. Otherwise, the only suggestion I have is to bend the aluminum edges of the portion of the bulb slightly and try to turn it with a pair of pliers.
cut a big potato in half and insert where the light bulb was and twist like you would the light bulb but make sure light is off first .. duh i am sure you are smart enough to know that..
you already read about the potatoe, the needle nose, the broom stick. you can use all three the one other advice i can add is before trying any, use a small pocket screw driver to loosen the base of the bulb away from the socket it will also create some place for what ever object you insert to keep from free spinning
